Weekly update: a finish, two starts + reading from With Strings Attached

Friday afternoon: Wild flag iris, palespike lobelia, spiderwort, Canadian anemone....and a turtle on a log.

It was sunny and hot on Saturday for the Zion Juneteenth celebration at Illinois Beach State Park. I staffed the Rotary booth from 11-3. The chair and three other Rotarians are on the event committee. I only got one photo, of me with four of the Interact Club who were all-around helpers for the event.

Midweek check in: flags flying and a finish from With Strings Attached

Flags are flying! Wild flag iris, that is. Purple/blue is native, yellow is invasive, and both are beautiful. Flags like to have their feet wet so they grow in marshy areas.

More wildflowers: redroot (new to me), lupine, coreopsis, wild rose, Carolina puccoon, prairie groundsel, rock sandwort.

No walk yesterday because I joined AAUW friends for our summer luncheon. There's a silent auction/sale for our scholarship fund. I brought books and a couple of miscellaneous items. I also brought the box of placemats that I've made ...

Midweek: challenge met! from With Strings Attached

Jolie Afrique is finished and so is the Six Quilts challenge. (The pattern is Jolie and the fabrics are African.)

The Villa Rosa Designs Six Quilts in Six Weeks Challenge instructions: finish six quilts from VRD patterns between April 6 and May 20. New starts, UFOs, and WIPs are eligible.

I leaped right on the challenge by finishing a UFO, making the April top-along (a VRD spinoff), and making four more quilts from patterns I purchased.

It feels so good to complete the challenge three weeks ahead of schedule!

Next project: an I Spy quilt. Baby shower is May 24 ...

We escaped the tornadoes and the flooding that hit Illinois and Wisconsin last week but there was a lot of rain. It's the third-wettest April on record. Weekly update: exhibits and celebrations + two finishes + reading from With Strings Attached

I took a little excursion Friday afternoon. Every year the Racine Art Museum hosts an exhibit of Peeps art. Entries come from studio artists, kids, city/county departments, and every day people. Such punny fun!

Warm weather and sunshine for yesterday's walk.

My jacket is Air Light from L.L. Bean. One of the women on the New Zealand trip had three of the pullover models and on her recommendation I got this one. (This color was on sale. :)) It is just the right weight and warmth.

Mr. and Mrs. Crane were taking a walk, too.

I had a couple of errands Monday morning and took a quick walk at the state park on my way home. (Yes, the lakefront is that close to home. In the top photo in the collage my house is at the very left edge, just below the halfway point.) The brisk northwest wind was chilly.

Weekly update: Easter, two finishes, and a six-part challenge from With Strings Attached

Easter Sunday was cool but the sunshine was abundant.

I went to church in the morning and had a nice long walk at Van Patten Woods in the afternoon.

Sumac, fungus, mullein. The place names Des Plaines and O'Plaine are corruptions of "eau pleine" meaning "full of water," which is how the early French explorers saw the river in flood. You can see why.

Quick post this morning. The Running Doe top-a-long (what is that? read details here) is a flimsy.

I cut into a few Kaffe prints, including the spashy center flowers. I used up the large part of several others. (I'm trying to get over the "can't cut this!" hurdle.)

Midweek: 25 blocks, OMG 2025, top-a-long from With Strings Attached

All 25 Old Town blocks are assembled. I think the design looks good this way but the sashing, which I have yet to make, kicks it up several notches. I will persevere.

I've begun something new.

I signed up for the Top-a-long with Running Doe Quilts . She is a designer for Villa Rosa. One pattern a month with the goal of making a flimsy. Getting it quilted is not required. The January pattern is Amelia .

These are big blocks -- 17" finished -- and that 8-1/2" center square called for the jumbo Kaffe flowers.

Tomorrow is Worldwide Quilting Day, and our local guild is having an exhibit for the day.
